Is It Easy To Rewire A Headlight On Your Own?

The answer would be a definite yes only if you know a little bit about electric circuits. If you don’t know anything about such things, then it’d be better to hire a professional for the job. Besides all that, if you’d still like to do it on your own, then don’t forget to read this blog until the end.

A rewiring is required whenever the headlight wiring harness that brings power turns out faulty. Honestly, it’s not that difficult to replace it. However, before you get on with it, you should know that the headlight wiring harness is connected to the bulb base and the power distribution center that goes back to the engine.  The best part is that you don’t need to have extensive tools for the job, but the process could vary from model to model, so keep in mind.

Following is a step-by-step guide on how to rewire a single push button light switch to the headlight:

  • Firstly, you have to turn off your vehicle.
  • Now, loosen the negative terminal and put both terminal and negative battery cable aside.
  • It is recommended to wrap the cables with tape so that they won’t entangle reconnect during the process.
  • Press on the sides of the headlight wiring harness. Now pull it off the rear of the assembly.
  • Now cut the wiring harness from the two wires connected to it.
  • Strip at least an inch of insulation from the wires you had just cut and slide the solder sleeve connector from each wire.
  • Now, strip an inch of insulation from the replacement wires and braid the new wire's positive lead with the lead from the pair of wires you got in step 5.
  • Braid the neutral lead of the replacement wire with the lead from the neutral wire from step 5.
  • At last, slide the solder sleeve connector on the bare positive leads which were braided earlier. And, that’s it; you just rewired the headlight without anyone’s help.
